Über Juan Camilo

I am a Robotics Engineer passionate about creating intelligent, autonomous systems that combine perception, decision-making, and action. My expertise spans the full stack of robotics development — from low-level hardware integration to high-level autonomy and AI-driven control.

Technically, I’m skilled in C++, Python, ROS 2, Docker, and Linux-based environments. I design and implement algorithms for navigation, obstacle avoidance, path planning, and human detection, integrating sensors such as LiDARs, cameras, and embedded devices. My background in computer vision, deep learning, and reinforcement learning allows me to develop robots capable of understanding and adapting to complex, dynamic environments.

I enjoy bridging the gap between software and hardware, building robust, scalable systems that perform reliably in real-world conditions. My hands-on knowledge of electronics, control systems, and embedded computing complements my software expertise and supports end-to-end development.

Beyond technical skills, I bring leadership, creativity, and adaptability. I have experience coordinating teams, defining technical roadmaps, and translating ambitious concepts into functional robotic solutions. I’m driven by curiosity, precision, and a deep commitment to quality and innovation.

I’m also passionate about biorobotics and human–machine interaction, constantly exploring how technology can extend human capabilities. My goal is to keep pushing the boundaries of autonomy, intelligence, and integration in robotics to build systems that are not only capable — but meaningful and human-centered.

  • Bertrandt technologies Spain SL.
    Robotics software Engineer
    Januar 2022 - Januar 2023 (1 Jahr)
During my time with Bertrandt technology Spain, I took on a pivotal role in a project focusing on the development of software for a small autonomous robot. My core contributions included designing and implementing lane detection algorithms using cutting-edge deep learning neural networks. Additionally, I spearheaded the creation of various computer vision applications to enhance the robot's functionality and played a key role in the rigorous testing and debugging phases, ensuring the software met stringent performance and reliability standards.

Subsequently after working in bertrandt internal projects, I transitioned to a work on a Airbus defence and space project, in the development of software for military Unmaned Air Vehicles (UAV) and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). In this role, I significantly developed and refined my programming skills across various languages and frameworks, including C++, C, Python, ROS 2, Protocol Buffers, Docker, Qt, and many others.

    Berlin, Deutschland
After working at Airbus, I was eager for new challenges and decided to move from Spain to Germany to join Sphaira Medical GmbH, a startup, as Lead Robotics Engineer. In this role, I led the development of an autonomous vehicle designed for intrahospital transportation of both patients and goods. I was the first engineer of this project and started to create the robot from zero, I was responsible for integrating various hardware components including LiDAR sensors, cameras, motor controllers, NVIDIA computers, and Raspberry Pi boards into a mobile platform, and for developing all the necessary software to enable full autonomy.
This involved setting up ROS 2 Humble and the Nav2 navigation stack, connecting and calibrating all sensor inputs, integrating third-party localization and navigation systems, and designing custom algorithms for obstacle detection, obstacle avoidance, and human detection. A major milestone of the project was a successful live milestone demo at UKSH, Germany's second-largest university hospital, where we showcased the robot's navigation and obstacle avoidance capabilities in a real-world hospital environment. I coordinated entirely this milestone, and we successfully passed all the requirements and achieved the milestone, receiving economical retribution from the hospital. Working in a startup also allowed me to grow beyond pure software development. I gained hands-on experience in hardware design, electronics, and electrical systems, while also expanding my skills in team leadership and project management. To support this growth, I completed multiple team management courses. Additionally, I contributed to other teams within the company, playing a key role in the certification of the P1 Moby Germany's first Class I medical device designed for isolated patient transport within hospitals.
