Über Tim

I am a software engineer with a strong background in perception systems, autonomous platforms, and safety-critical applications, combining hands-on development experience with system-level responsibility.

Most recently, I worked for Bosch Engineering GmbH as Lead Software Engineer on rail projects. In this role, I was responsible for software development and technical leadership in a complex autonomous system aimed at obstacle detection and automated responses in hazardous situations. The system fused data from LiDAR, RGB HDR cameras, infrared cameras, radars, and ultrasonic sensor networks, combined with RTK-corrected GNSS, wheel speed sensors, and IMUs for precise localization. Key challenges I addressed included multi-sensor data fusion, reliable data transmission, and strict temporal synchronization across multiple processing units and sensors.

Before that, I spent nearly four years at IAV GmbH, contributing to a variety of advanced R&D projects in robotics and automotive contexts. My work ranged from camera-based object detection and localization for autonomous agricultural robots, to machine learning–based classification of vehicle measurement data (from engine ECUs), and the design of a high-performance visual localization subsystem on an NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX for an autonomous drone using ROS2, C++, OpenCV, and CUDA.

I began my career at ITK Engineering GmbH, where I specified, developed and tested model-based control software for battery management systems in fully electric vehicles using MATLAB/Simulink. I also designed verification tools to ensure model quality and guideline compliance, and worked closely with requirements management processes.

Overall, I bring a broad and deep skill set spanning autonomous systems, perception, embedded and high-performance computing, and safety-critical software development, with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset and experience across the full development lifecycle.

Lead software engineer on the railway project “Automated Train” with the objective of obstacle detection and integrated autonomous response in potential hazardous situations. For perception of the frontal environment, LiDARs, RGB HDR cameras, infrared cameras, radars, and a network of ultrasonic sensors were used. Localization was performed using RTK-corrected GNSS, wheel speed sensors, and IMUs. Among the challenges were data transmission and the temporal synchronization of the processing computers.
